In the year 1978 IBM closed its operations in India. A group of IBMers came together to serve IBM customers. The group formed a Maintenance Company called
‘Office Product Maintenance Services’. It was popularly known as
‘OPMS’.
OPMS, in the year 1981 further got recognition from IBM as Authorised Dealer and was renamed as
Alphabetics Pvt Ltd. Since then APL has been marketing IBM product range. The range included variety of products from electric / electronic typewriters to PS/2 range of Personal Computers. To provide world-class service to customers IBM Australia arranged series of training to Alphabetics field engineers. Subsequently, Alphabetics got well equipped to offer the services from the offices at three metro cities, New Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai.
In the year 1991, IBM sold its office products division to Lexmark International. As a part of agreement between IBM and Lexmark, all the MOUs and agreements between IBM and Alphabetics were continued to be honored by Lexmark. Manufacturing and marketing of related products were transferred from IBM to Lexmark and APL became their first country distributors in India. Lexmark, apart from Typewriters, introduced a range of Laser and Inkjet Printers including the famous 1200 x 1200 dpi Optra range of Laser Printers.
Meanwhile, looking at Indian market IBM decided to come back to India partnering with TATA with Indian name ‘Tata Information System Ltd.’ since 1994, APL is a business partner of TISL (now known as
IBM India Ltd) to sell IBM product range from PCs to AS/400, RS/6000. Today, APL has multiple relationships with
IBM for the various product lines.
With improved communication facility, networking has become the keyword in the field of Information Technology. This has led to an ever-increasing need for networking products and solutions. We at APL have installed variety of networking solutions and supporting them end-to-end.
To give focused attention to customers in Maharashtra and surrounding sates, we decided to have a separate unit for Western Region operations, APL Mumbai Inc.
APL Mumbai Inc. is equipped with variety of skilled manpower starting from consultancy, designing to commissioning and post-warranty support.
